Track laying concludes for subway Line Two

地铁2号线实现全线“轨通”
Xiamen transit authorities announced track laying for Line Two of the city’s subway system wrapped up on Monday after a year of work. The 89-kilometer line runs from Wuyuan Bay in Huli to Tianzhu Mountain in Haicang. Construction for the line began in 2015. Trial operations are slated for the end of this year.
Gulangyu rugby tournament kicks off

The annual Gulangyu Cup International Rugby Clubs Tournament kicked off last Saturday at Gulangyu's People's Stadium. More than 350 domestic and international participants from over 40 countries participated in the tourney. A team from Chongqing captured the men's title and a pair of women's teams staged on an exhibition match during the tournament.

Civil Aviation Resource Net of China, a website focused on the Chinese aviation market, recently announced the annual winners of its Aviation Services Awards. The Xiamen Gaoqi International Airport was one of five winners of the Best Airport Award.

The spring iteration of the China Xiamen International Buddhist Items and Crafts Fair concluded Monday at the Xiamen International Conference and Exhibition Center. The venue simultaneously hosted a trio of events, including the spring Xiamen International Tea Industry Fair, the China Xiamen International Handicraft Fair, and the Xiamen International Vegetarian Food and Organic Products Fair. Covering a combined 180,000 square meters, the five
-day set of events drew a collective 250,000 domestic and international guests.
Xiamen's meeting and exhibition industry has grown significantly in the past decade. The city now hosts a wide range of high-visibility events, including the China International Fair for Investment and Trade, the Xiamen Industry Exposition, and the Strait Forum. Xiamen received 1.8 million international meeting and exhibition participants last year. Industry analysts expect the number to top two million international guests this year.
To address the industry's growth, construction has been accelerated on a new exhibition hall next to the Xiamen International Conference and Exhibition Center. The new hall will host events such as the awards ceremony for the next five editions of the Golden Rooster and Hundred Flowers Film Festival.
Xiamen Daily New Media Fan Festival set for May 25

The inaugural New Media Fan Festival for Xiamen Daily will kick off on May 25 at Xiamen Wuyi Cultural Square. Sponsored by Xiamen Daily and Minsheng Bank, the event commemorates the 70th anniversary of the newspaper, which was established in the same year as the founding of the People's Republic of China.
The event will include the launch of the upgraded version of Xiamen Daily's “潮前智媒” app for smartphones. Other activities include a photo exhibition of approximately 100 photos from the 1950s through the 1980s. The photos chronicle the evolution of local landmarks such as Dongdu Port, Heping Pier and Xiahe Road. The exhibit includes a collection of graphic charts from the newspaper through the years as well a series of photos capturing local daily life over the past seven decades.


Superstar Gemini cruise ship sets XM as its home port

The Superstar Gemini cruise ship recently established Xiamen as its home port for the next six months, the longest time an international cruise line has used Xiamen as its home port. Operated by Star Cruises, the Gemini offers weekly departures to regional ports, including Miyakojima, Okinawa and Yaeyama Islands in Japan and Kaohsiung and Penghu in Taiwan.
In the first four months of this year, Xiamen's port received 40 cruise ships and more than 120,000 passengers, helping the city become the busiest cruise port in the Chinese mainland.
Red Dot Museum hosts launch of Good Design Award competition

The Red Dot Museum Xiamen recently hosted the kickoff of Red Dot's annual design competition. Individuals and companies may submit award candidates through September 11 via an online application at cgdaward.com. Since 2015, the Red Dot's Contemporary Good Design Award competition has drawn more than 10,000 entrants from dozens of countries. The Red Dot Museum Xiamen includes a permanent display for previous winners of the award.
CIFIT set to launch on September 8

China International Fair for Investment and Trade representatives recently announced that this year's CIFIT convention will kick off on September 8. Organizers predict that the event will include approximately 6,000 booths spread over 130,000 square meters at the Xiamen International Conference and Exhibition Center. Shaanxi will be this year's guest province of honor for the four-day convention.
The event will include a series of pavilions devoted to a variety of topics including green technology investment and the intersection of industry and the internet as well as agriculture and electronic commerce.
Jimei dragon boat race to begin on May 25

海峡两岸龙舟赛本月25日、26日举行
Jimei will host the annual launch of the Jiageng Cup and the Jingxian Cup dragon boat races on May 25. The two-day series of races are part of the annual Strait Forum. More than 50 crews from the Chinese mainland and from Taiwan are scheduled to compete. More than 30 activities are planned for the Dragon Boat cultural festival that will occur alongside the series of boat races.


Zhonglun Park's verbena now in full bloom

More than 60,00 square meter of verbena in Zhonglun Park reached their peak blossom this month. The purple flowers are a major tourism draw for the park. Park authorities said that the bloom will last through the end of June.


Agritourism and rural tourism surge for May Day holiday

Local tourism authorities announced last week that agritourism and rural tourism experienced a surge of interest during the recent May Day holiday. The city's rural leisure industry greeted 687,000 guests during the period, up more than 20 percent year-on-year. Tourists spent a total of 90 million yuan, up 22 percent over the previous year. Popular rural tourism draws included the Da Mao Mountain and Dazhai Community scenic areas.
