XM tops domestic cities for graduation tourism

As the university entrance examination and the senior high school entrance examination concluded, the graduation travel season commenced. According to a report jointly released last week by the China Tourism Research Institute and Ctrip, Xiamen topped the ranking of most popular domestic destination cities for graduation tourism this summer, followed by Sanya and Chengdu.
Gulangyu and Zencuo'an are the hottest spots among local tourist attractions, in part because of their digital presence on Tik Tok, a short-video social platform powered by music. Xiamen also ranked fifth place on a list of cities with the widest variety of tourism options.
Local tourism officials noted that tourists should be aware of safety and purchase insurance when engaging in potentially dangerous activities such as scuba diving and motorboat riding. They also advised tourists to book Gulangyu ferry tickets in advance.
Scientific research vessel embarks on new mission

The scientific research vessel Xiang Yang Hong Three left its homeport of Xiamen last Saturday for the beginning of a 150-day journey. The ship will conduct marine scientific exploration and research of the Pacific ocean before its return to Xiamen in December.
Construction to begin on new route to mainland from Xiamen

City officials recently announced that construction is slated to begin in Octoberon the Second Eastern Passage, a new 12-kilometer link from the island of Xiamen to the mainland. The route includes 4.5 kilometers of elevated roadway above ocean waters. 
Seven XM firms earn place on Fortune China Top

The Fortune Chinese Network recently released its annual Fortune China Top 500 list, which includes seven enterprises headquartered in Xiamen. Three local firms made the top 50, including C&D, the Xiangyu Group and the Xiamen ITG Holding Group.
The annual rankings are based on an assessment of the performance of Chinese listed companies worldwide in 2017. Fortune magazine (Chinese version) compiled the list in cooperation with China International Capital Corporation Wealth Management.
Xiamen C&D Corporation held onto its top ranking in Xiamen with an operating income of 218 billion yuan, ranking 39th on the overall list. The Xiangyu Group ranked second with an operating income of 203 billion yuan, ranking 42nd overall. the Xiamen ITG Holding Group ranked third locally with an operating income of 164 billion yuan, placing it 49th on the overall list.
The top three Xiamen enterprises each advanced into the overall top 50, which is the best result for Xiamen in recent years.
Xiamen University of Technology announce
s new IELTS Center

Xiamen University of Technology recently announced that it will host the city's first IELTS center for British visas and immigration. The new center is in addition to Xiamen University's IELTS center, which conducts testing for international studies but is not tied to the U.K.'s immigration program. The IELTS center at the Xiamen University of Technology will hold its first round of tests on October 20. Candidates can visit the official IELTS test registration website to register.
Subway Line Two to begin trial operations by end of next year

Officials from the Xiamen Development and Reform Commission noted that the city spent 8.9 billion yuan on rail transit projects in the first half of the year. Xiamen's subway network will expand to include Lines One, Two, Three and Four over the next three years.
Work is complete on the primary structures for 15 of Line Two's planned 32 stations, with surrounding structural work complete on all of the line's stations. Trial operations for Line Two are slated to begin by the end of 2019.
Progress continues on Line Three, which will include 23 stations when it enters trial operations by the end of 2020. Work has also begun on nine of the 10 planned stations for Line Four, with trial operations also slated for the end of 2020. Work has also begun on Line Six, with construction underway for the Maluan Zhongxin, Maluan West, Xibin Intersection and Jimei Island stations.
XM announces traffic numbers for first half of the year

City officials recently released the results of its semiannual road traffic report. The number of motor vehicles registered in Xiamen topped 1.5 million, a majority of which are tied to addresses on the island of Xiamen. Average daily traffic on the city's thoroughfares was up by almost 36 percent year-on-year.
The survey identified major congestion points, which includes University Road (Minzu Road) alongside Xiamen University. Traffic accidents occur the most frequently on Haicang Bridge and its rampways, notching more than 700 accidents in the first half of the year.
Local children set to debut pair of songs on CCTV show

A new CCTV production entitled Baby Show debuts later this month. The program will include performances by the Blue Dolphin Taiwan Opera Club, a children's musical group from the Haicang Affiliated School, which has links to Beijing Normal University. The group recorded the local opera songs last month for Baby Show, which aims to encourage young children to explore traditional Chinese culture.
