Nowadays there are an increasing number of people showing great curiosity towards their family history and delving into it deeply.  This essay will discuss the factors contributing to this trend and explain why do I think that this is a positive phenomenon.
This trend is caused by several factors.  The primary reason is that most people are curious about how their current life is related to the past. For example, some people are born to have a great interest in sports and may want to know where does this passion come from. Another reason is related to self identity. The number of immigrants born in foreign countries have been growing dramatically, and the majority of them want to feel connected to their own cultures.  Such desire motivates them to explore their own roots including customs, traditions and beliefs.
I believe that this is a positive trend. Firstly, if our innate abilities can be explained by our family history, we will feel that we are talented, becoming more driven to strengthen that ability and make greater achievements.   Secondly, for those growing up in a foreign country and having no contact to their mother country, studying their past can deepen their sense of belonging to their own culture and prevent them from feeling isolated in the foreign country.  Furthermore, this trend also benefits the economy. For instance, there has been a growing number of Chinese raised in other countries looking for their hometowns in China and many companies have started to organise trips to meet this booming demand, which has boosted the local economy of some popular destinations.
Therefore, people’s  desire to explore their roots deeply comes from their curiosity about their own life and  the hope to connect to their motherland.  This is beneficial to their self-development, sense of belonging , and the economy.

In many cities, planners tend to arrange shops, schools, offices and homes in specific area and separate them from each other. Do you think the advantages outweigh the disadvantages.

It is common for city designers to separate different areas from each other. I believe that this trend has more pros than cons.
Separating different areas from each other has some merits. To begin with, being located in specific areas can make people study or work effective. For example, some schools are situated in specific areas, which avoids students being distracted from studying by other things such as shops’ activities and entertainment facilities for families. It is this design that will improve students’ learning effectiveness. Secondly, separating shops from other areas may help consumers save money. This is because shops are located together may cause fierce competition, therefore, they have to reduce the price of products to stand out, thus eliminating consumers’ expenditures. Furthermore, home areas are located in sole places can make people live a better life. Specifically, people who live in specific home areas can have more enjoyable living environment, thereby improving their quality of life.
Separating different areas from each other also has some drawbacks. Firstly, being separated from other areas may reduce shops’ revenues. This is because being far from other areas will cause inconvenience to consumers, they will prefer to shop online rather than going to physical stores, which impairs shops’ revenues. Additionally, separating different areas from each other may accelerate the air pollution. Specifically, compared with people who live in mixed areas, people who live in specific areas may use cars more often, which emits more greenhouse gases. If they kept this situation for a long time, it would make the air pollution more serious.
As previously discussed, separating different areas from each other has more benefits than problems.

Some people think it is a bad idea for parents to give expensive presents for children. What is your opinion ?
Nowadays, with the increase in people’s financial capacity, there are a lot of parents giving children gifts that cost exorbitantly high. It is believed that this behaviour should not be encouraged. I strongly agree with it.
Giving children expensive gifts will lead to several problems. Firstly, this is detrimental to children’s development. Specifically , children are likely to be attracted by costly items, developing an addiction towards them.  However, after they grow up, most parents will not continue to give them gifts, they will feel disappointed, causing some of them to overspend or use illegal ways to obtain money. What is more, giving expensive gifts will impose a financial burden on parents.  Even though some parents can afford them, children may not be satisfied with just a few items, asking parents to purchase more, which will definitely cause the waste of money. For middle class families, such demands will result in the shortage of money allocated to other areas .
However, we should not disregard the benefit of this trend.  Some parents may want to use gifts to reward children, thereby encouraging positive behaviour. Nevertheless,  there are other options for parents to choose to  provide children incentives without having any negative impact. For instance, parents can choose more affordable gifts or make gifts themselves.  They can also use verbal appreciation to comment on children’s performance so that they can still feel that their progress is recognised and valued. This type of incentive also tends to cultivate more intrinsic motivation than material reward.
As discussed above, parents should not give children gifts costing too much money since it will impede children’s growth and affect parents financially. Other forms of rewards such as verbal encouragement should be considered as a substitute.
