Job Title: Research Assistant- Full Stack Web Developer
Harvard Kennedy School’s Ash Center for Democratic Governance and Innovation is looking for a full stack web developer to work with the China Philanthropy Project on its end-to-end pipeline for visualizing donation dataon the website. This opportunity will involve working with faculty andresearchers to compile an exciting database of top Chinese philanthropists and recipient organizations in China, which seeks to quantify indices related to generosity, diversity, and innovation in this emerging sector. The first version of the project’s website is here: http://www.chinaphilanthropy.ash.harvard.edu.
Ideal applicants should have a strong programming background in web development and data visualization as well as some level of interest in China’s philanthropic development. Successful candidates should be able to accomplish the followingtwo tasks:
1) Write reusable and scalable codes to build a high-performance modern website, and link thatsite to a constantly updated database.

2) Create data visualization in web browsers using D3.js or equivalent libraries.
Qualifications:
- BS/MS in Computer Science, or equivalent experience

- Experience with full stack web development, using PHP, Python, Javascript,Postgres, MySQL, HTML5, CSS, AWS, DigitalOcean, etc.

- Good understanding of version control system like Git.

- Experience designing, developing, and using RESTful APIs

- Fluency in written and spoken Chinese.

- Proficiency in using Microsoft Excel.

- Ability to work within a team under deadline pressure.
- Must be availableto work regularly from the Ash Center office in Cambridge, MA for the durationof the position.
- Must be able to work 35 hours per week during the summer and preferably 17.25 hours per week during the fall per week.
