谁说美国教育快乐和轻松？在美国的精英层，其实是拼爹拼妈，孩子进入私立幼儿园前，面临残酷的筛选和竞争——家长过不了面试就录取不了孩子！
《从纽约起航》一书作者李嘉音，披露了纽约曼哈顿十几所全美顶级的私立名校的录取，以及家长面试。其中的几所私校“幼升小”的录取率甚至还低于常春藤最难进的哈佛大学。
私立学校申请必备：申请表（含1篇或几篇文书），家长面试，孩子面试，原学校提供的学生报告，申请2年级以上需要ERB等标准化考试成绩， 平时成绩，老师推荐信等。
 纽约大部分私立中小学需要单独面试家长，要求家长双方一起参加。面试一般30分钟，主要向家长询问关于孩子的情况。万事开头难，第一个问题往往是：请描述一下你的孩子（Tell me about your child.）。
      这个问题其实挺考验家长水平的，可长可短。面试开头产生的第一印象非常重要，所以家长们必须好好准备。建议选出孩子的三个亮点，展开一下，不要过于简短，保持在3分钟以内。
        还有一类重要的问题就是问家长：为什么要申请这所学校？是否认同学校的教学理念？回答不能张冠李戴，有的家长居然在面试时把学校名字都说错啦（估计申请太多所学校迷糊了）！必须在面试前好好研究该校的特别之处，学校的网站要反复看，仔细看！
        要让面试官觉得这份申请特别真诚。我记得有一次面试我讲了好几句该校的与众不同之处，面试官表情立马就兴奋了，进而拉近了彼此的距离。
       其它问题，例如你孩子晚上一般都做些什么？孩子有哪些爱好？等等。我查阅了各种资料，采访了很多“过来人”，还包括自己参加6次面试的积累，一共搜集并整理了50道家长面试题目。
       面试时，父母双方都要说话，面试的秘密武器是爸爸，如果爸爸回答的多，效果最好。如果父母不会英语，可以请翻译参加。
         家长面试需要穿着正装，爸爸必须穿西装、打领带，平时上班的妈妈建议穿职业装，全职在家的妈妈建议穿裙装。衣服穿着要得体，不能太抢镜，不能亮闪闪。
