联合国怼美国，“怼”字的英文原来这么说！

用英语怎么说？

最近，一位二十出头美国士兵，把美国窃听各国情报的绝密消息发在了网上，窃听的对象包括美国最亲密的盟友，以及就在纽约办公的联合国秘书长。

消息传出之后，联合国的发言人对此事发表了声明，还给美国代表团发去了照会。

CNN今天在报道这件事时，新闻的标题是：

United Nations issues rare rebuke of United States over leaked documents

联合国就泄露的文件对美国发出罕见的谴责

看到这个标题时，我觉得rebuke这个词很有意思，这跟中文里常见的“怼”字，不是正好对应么！

rebuke的解释是：If you rebuke someone, you speak severely to them because they have said or done something that you do not approve of. 即在别人说了或做了你不认可的事情之后，严厉地对其讲话。

有时候，硬着头皮想某个中文字词怎么用英语说，不一定能想到贴切的说法。这时不妨多看看英文的材料，说不定能找到一些灵感。

CNN这篇新闻的正文第一句话是：

Weeks after a trove of classified US intelligence documents were posted on social media, the United Nations issued a rare rebuke of the United States after reports that those documents allegedly revealed the US was spying on the Secretary-General and other high ranking UN officials.

在大量美国机密情报文件发布在社交媒体上数周后，联合国罕见地对美国发出了谴责，此前有报道称，这些文件据称表明美国正在监视秘书长和其他联合国高级官员。

这是报道的第一句话，很长，但把主要的事情都说清楚了。

trove一词可能平时比较少见的，这个词表示a store of valuable or delightful things，一堆有价值的东西，宝库。

allegedly这个词很有意思，表示used when something illegal or wrong is said to have been done, but has not been proved，据称，据说，即干了坏事，但还没证明的意思。

spy一词正是联合国所怼的事情。spy作名词表示间谍，这里是不及物动词，表示从事间谍活动。如果用spy on这个搭配，表示暗中监视；侦查的意思。

对于美国的监视，联合国的回应很有意思：

“The Secretary-General has been at this job, and in the public eye, for a long time. He’s not surprised by the fact that people are spying on him and listening in on his private conversations,” Guterres’ office said in a statement Thursday.

“秘书长担任这项工作并出现在公众视野中已有很长时间了。他对人们监视他并窃听他的私人谈话这一事实并不感到惊讶，”古特雷斯办公室周四在一份声明中说。

声明说的这么直白，显然联合国已经身经百战了。联合国说的下面一句话更有意思：

“What is surprising is the malfeasance or incompetence that allows for such private conversations to be distorted and become public,” it added.

“令人惊讶的是，导致这些私人谈话被歪曲并公开的渎职或无能，”声明补充说。

malfeasance

表示the doing of a wrongful or illegal act, esp by a public official (公共官员的)渎职行为。

从这句话可以看出，联合国对窃听已经见怪不怪了。但你自己听听就可以了，不要放到网上啊！对于这种malfeasance，联合国也是不得不怼一下了。
