Esther was the Queen ofPersia. Even her husband, King Xerxes, didn't knowher secret. Esther wasJewish. Esther's cousin,Mordecai, worked at thepalace and looked out forher.
以斯帖是波斯的王后。但她是个犹太人，这个秘密连她的丈夫亚哈随鲁王也不知道。以斯帖的堂兄末底改在王宫里工作，他常常照顾以斯帖。

Xerxes' advisor, Haman,received a great reward. Hewas very proud. Everyoneexcept Mordecai boweddown to him. Haman wasinsulted. He vowed to killMordecai and all the Jews!
亚哈随鲁王有一个大臣，名叫哈曼，他很受国王重用，有钱有势。他非常傲慢。其他的大臣都害怕他,向他跪拜，只有末底改见到他不跪拜。哈曼很生气，他发誓要杀了末底改和国内所有的犹太人！

Haman told Xerxes that theJews were dangerous andshould die. Xerxes agreedand set a day to kill them.Mordecai was terrified andsent a message to QueenEsther.
哈曼向亚哈随鲁王造谣，说犹太人都是危险分子，应该都被处死。亚哈随鲁王同意了,并且确定了一个日子要处死所有的犹太人。全城的犹太人都哭泣哀号，末底改也非常忧愁。
"Change the king's mind,"said Mordecai. "If I go tohim without his invitationhe can have me killed,"Esther replied. "Perhapsyou were made queen justfor this moment," saidMordecai.
末底改托人对以斯帖说：“你要想办法让王改变主意。”以斯帖回复说：“我如果没有王的召见就去见王，会被处死的。”“也许你被封为王后就是为了这一刻，”末底改说。

Esther bravely agreed totry. She went to the throneroom. King Xerxes wasamazed by her beauty andinvited her in. "Can we havedinner with Haman?" sheasked.
以斯帖勇敢地答应了去试。她鼓起勇气，走向王所在的宫殿。亚哈随鲁王看见美丽的王后，就邀请她进来。以斯帖趁机提出请求，说：“我们可以跟哈曼共进晚餐吗?”
Haman was building a biggallows in his back yard. Heplanned to hang Mordecaion it. Then the king’sinvitation arrived. SoHaman went to the palacefor dinner.
哈曼正在他的后院搭一个巨大的绞刑架，准备把末底改处死。这时国王派人邀请他,于是哈曼就去王宫赴宴了。
"A man wants to kill me andmy people, the Jews,"Esther told Xerxes. "Whowould do such a thing?" heasked. "The evil Haman!"Esther cried. "Haman?Guards! Put him to death."
在酒席上，以斯帖对亚哈随鲁王说：“有个人想要杀害我和我的族人犹太人。”王问道：“谁敢做这样的事?” “就是这个恶人哈曼！”以斯帖大声说。“哈曼？来人啊！把他拉出去处死。”
So Haman was hanged onthe gallows he'd built forMordecai. Because ofEsther, the Jews weresaved! They celebrated witha great feast, which theyobserve to this day.
于是，哈曼被吊死在他为末底改准备的那个绞刑架。犹太人因为以斯帖得救了！他们设摆丰盛的筵席来庆祝这件事。直到今天，犹太人仍然纪念这个日子。
