昨日（4月25日），《美国新闻与世界报导》(U.S. World & News Report)发布了2017年度全美公立高中排名。休斯敦公立高中表现出色，共有2所学校进入全美前20名。这两所学校是，Carnegie Vanguard High School和DeBakey High School for Health Professions。
此外，大休斯顿地区有近20个学校获得金牌（Gold Medal），在全美500强学校中排名第一。而德州共有4所公立高中进入前20名，仅次于亚利桑那州。德州总共有65所高中获得金牌，仅次于加州。
Carnegie Vanguard在全国排名上升了2位，排在第8名，DeBakey上升了11位，达到了第18名个。他们在德州的公立高中分别排在第2和第4名，高于去年的第3和第5名。
今年休斯敦地区公立高中进步显著。Challenge Early College High School从去年的78位跃至第69位。Victory Early College High School也从全美第293名上升至目前的112名。
在全美最佳“磁校”（Magnet School）的专项排名上。Carnegie Vanguard全美第2名，DeBakey排名第5名。而德州的传统牛校，School for the Talented and Gifted排名第1。
《美国新闻与世界报导》（U.S. World & News Report）目前是美国教育界最为认可的排名机构之一。在公立高中排名中，主要依据学生在国家高中水平考试中的整体表现，弱势群体学生在考试中的表现，高中生毕业率以及大学课程的准备程度。本年度该机构对全美2万8千多所公立高中进行了评估，排名前三的高中均位于亚利桑那州。
