Appeal for Petition to Amend Massachusetts General Law Chapter 11
In March 2023, the Massachusetts Office of State Auditor (OSA) announced a plan to audit the State Legislature, which includes scrutinizing budgetary, hiring, spending, and procurement practices, among other legislative processes. 
However, the Legislature has refused to comply with the audit. The State Auditor argues that the audit is constitutionally supported, citing historical precedents and the need for transparency in public policy. Conversely, the Attorney General has stated that current laws do not authorize such an audit without legislative consent.
Given this deadlock, the State Auditor is now seeking public support through a ballot initiative to amend Massachusetts General Law Chapter 11. 
This amendment aims to explicitly grant the State Auditor the authority to audit the Legislature, ensuring clarity and removing any ambiguities about the scope of this power.
