Reenactors will return to the 2017 Mid-Atlantic Air Museum’s WWII Weekend event held in Reading Regional Airport from June 2nd through June 4th. This year, the Chinese contingent is jointly organized by Qiangyou Foundation and Greater Philadelphia Chinese Gun Club, with 66D Travel as title sponsor.
Last year, some 40 men and women portrayed the story of Chinese soldiers and civilians rescuing downed U.S. pilots of the Doolittle Raid through display, parade, and live fire skirmishes. The American crowd wastold in such event the first time of the Chinese contribution and sacrifice in the struggle against the Japanese Empire, which started long before WWII formally brokeout. It was a great success and eye opener, in a sense that many just realized that Chinese was one of the U.S. allies then.
There are many more reenactors this time, depicting troops from both the Chinese 8th Route Army and 29th Army, andthe fabled story of Colonel Evans F. Carlson’s journey alongside Chinese patrols behind Japanese line, where he learnt the methods of guerilla warfare from the Chinese and later incorporated into the doctrines of the Marine Raiders, one offirst U.S. special operations forces. The legend of Chinese 29th Army’s night raid on Japanese troops near the Great Wall, with nothing more than pistols, grenades and swords, will also be told. On display and in action will be many period firearms special to Chinese theatre, that will arouse huge interest of both history and firearm aficionados. This year’s Chinese contingent consists of enthusiasts around the globe, from New York, New Jersey to westcoast states such as California and Washington, even as far as Australia. We are confident of an even greater success in 2017.
