St. Paul’s School failed to investigate past reports of sexual abuse by faculty and protect students from sexual misconduct done to them by the school’s adult staff, a report released Monday morning revealed.
The report, conducted by Casner & Edwards law firm in Boston, summarizes a year-long investigation of allegations of sexual assault and misconduct by 34 St. Paul’s faculty members and staff.
Investigators reviewed a previous report from 2000 and found the scope of the earlier investigation was “inadequate.”
“There is no excuse for the failure to pursue allegations when they were initially made in 2000,”  Rector Michael G. Hirschfeld said in a statement. “That was an error in both priorities and basic judgement and it is important to correct those actions.”
The school requested the investigation last year after claims of sexual assault were made against a former teacher, Howard White, while he was at another school. White taught at St. Paul’s from 1967 to 1971 and the school found no complaints against White in its records.
This story will be updated with more details and reaction from the report.
