We're at Xiamen University's main gate and over there is the bus stop. You can take bus 20 or 135 and get off at Zhongshan Road.

Yes, you should do a bit of tourism. Shapowei is along Daxue Road. Go straight down this road and turn right at the traffic light. At the next intersection you're at the beginning of the Shapowei neighborhood.
