怎样帮助孩子提高英文阅读能力？（珍藏版）

谁给评价的？而且英文不是只包括一本本读大部头的书吧。”

初一公立中学ELA老师说的, 用的什么标准划的考试测了所有的孩子，算是入学考试吧。 然后用reading plus留作业，我不知道是学校只买到了Level M 还是Reading plus就到LevelM。反正老师给了一个证书。

说是她今年阅读没有作业了。 老师省事了，我不知所措了。

孩子问了从其他gifted 学校的ABC同学，她们的考试结果给他们的RP作业是Level F

我孩子几年前在加州公立时也是Lexile 说高岀6个年级，后来知道很多中国孩子高岀1-n 个年级。感觉这东西有点玄，我当时就半信半疑。

孩子reading 是很好，是不是高那么多就不好说了。老师图省事，

我个人感觉我们家长不能全信那个标准。

谢谢。去年在小学五年级的时候她就读完M了，

当时还有些文章她无法完全理解。里面有俄国作家小说的英译本，

我帮她看过一个计算机历史发展史从386到window8. 有一篇讲物理的，我让一个中科院天体物理博士看了一下 ，他说物理概念简单但是英文词汇还是很专业的，而且阅读速度快，

他看完了说是全懂，但是看到题目时，

是根据自己的background knowledge 理解的，不是根据看文章理解的，速度太快。 所以我相信有大学水平。

今年孩子根据老师要求在学校课堂上又做了一遍M， 没有要求我们给她看任何一篇文章。8/15开学-10/15做完 了。  

我也觉得是老师图省事， 或者就是公立学校定的水准低。

@高娃 @Laura 如果是AR，每本书都会有考试，这样就能知道孩子理解多少。

当然是指字面上的理解。

@Laura 你孩子的情况肯定是非常advanced, 她的自学能力肯定很强。关键是让她一直保持好奇心，

自己去学习去explore, 做什么reading 题我觉的不必要，标准化考试对她太简单了。

@Laura 好厉害，是我们的榜样。我家女儿在国内国际学校，

我抓阅读抓得很紧，4年级lexile 1100,对应上面那张表是I，希望将来能像你女儿一样。

这几年推她阅读最大的收获就是，阅读已经成为她生活的一部分，

不需要我催和盯着，是她自然而然喜欢做的事情

我们学校老师根据测试会给出3个指标，F&

P指导学校图书馆找书，Raz kids assignment和lexile

@高娃，是。我现在担心她太object oriented. 自己在没有学校老师的要求下 如何继续保持阅读水平和兴趣是个未知数   而且她现在都是在看同学推荐的书，没什么是自己选择的

@Laura ,If you really want to know the true reading skill of your daughter, you can have her take the SAT test. If she has perfect score or close to perfect score in reading comprehension, you don't need to worry about her reading list. Guided reading should only be for elementary students. Middle school student should carry on their reading on their own, especially for advanced reader. Normally these students has strong interest in learning different things on their own due to their reading ability. At the same time, you don't need to worry about low SAT scores if she doesn't do well. The score will be erased at the end of academic year if she is 12 or younger.

@Laura 这种孩子对家长是个challenge。

家长要做的就是适当引导，找资源，让她保持兴趣，

她的学习能力强，不需要具体指导，家长一般也没能力指导。还有，

我个人感觉，孩子有天份，在周围环境里很突出，

家长更要冷静淡定，以平常心对待孩子，让她有好的开阔的心态，

输赢放得下。academic 怎样更上一层都在其次。

就怕给孩子压力和其他家长比较来比较去的。

孩子四年级自己想打排球打了一年，我五年级让她停了一年，

她还坚持，今年赛季我就答应了。就是要让她经历输赢都有的日子。

钢琴和网球都停了给集体项目的排球腾时间。

@Laura 我老大在CTY SET里。我几乎没有见过华人孩子因为英文分数进去的，

清一色是因为数学成绩。

孩子在13岁生日之前单科成绩考过CTY要求分数线就可以进SE

T。

美国公校的这个reading level 只能做一个参考。我儿子从三年级下学期起，加州的star reading test 就consistently 在12.9+,也就是12年级上了9+月的level,

lexile的level 也是最高级，但我并不觉得他ready 看高中生看的书。

我后来给他买了很多非fiction的书看，金融方面的，

数学方面的

每个孩子爱看的书可能不一样，我儿子爱看flash boys, money ball, liar's poker, 都是讲wall street的

还有beat the dealer,讲怎么打败庄家的

还有一些人物传记也很好看

就是找她年龄段喜欢的书，大量找，放 在她触手可及的地方，只要手边没事她就拿来看

孩子小的时候每晚给孩子读bed time story,大一点能自己读了，就多去书店，图书馆，多买书，

杂志。我平时对孩子其他的花费控制都比较严格，

但是买书从来都不控制budget

然后大人爱看书也会起到潜移默化的作用

父母也要经常在孩子面前看书交流读书心得，

孩子好奇就会一起看书。

也可以定家庭读书日，

每周固定时间一家人一起看几个小时的书也挺好的。

@Helen, 王华 我儿子现在上7年级了,他从小爱看书，阅读量很大。

上小学的时候我每周都在class里做volunteer,

发现他们的accelerated reading program 很好，尤其是词汇的测试，我就让他不要管AR做对几道题，

每个AR的词汇测试一定要做。

然后他的三年级的老师spelling test 有自己的一套东西，讲prefix, suffix ,词根，后来我就觉得我儿子对词根的理解很好，

也很会猜不认识的词的意思，所以他每次测试，reading level 非常之高，但并不代表他ready 读高中大学孩子看的书。他现在有时拿了picture book, comic books也还是看得津津有味

不好意思。我不是特别爱读书的家长。

孩子是在学校跟着reading log长大的。而且孩子也不是在有gifted program 的小学里。那里的小学家长都在推数学（

现在孩子们都在同一个中学）我认为小学应该学语言，

所以我不是自己水平很高的家长。

他阅读速度非常快，阅读的内容也很广，很喜欢希腊神话，

经常在家里说很多英文词根的来源都是希腊语，

曾一度想自学拉丁语。

昨天你们讨论竞赛，好像偏理科的多。我们这个高中也是，

science，math，chemistry等。

我家孩子偏文，最喜欢语言和历史类。理科还好，

但达不到竞赛的水平。有没有文科生的比赛，考试什么的？

Debate不是他的菜。

然后Mary Poppe 写过给小孩看的odyssey,也很好看的

@Janet and @Jo Jo , Sorry, I don't know anyone. My past experience tells me that the good writing skill comes from massive reading in different fields and a good English teacher at school. Reading should not be limited in fiction, student should start to read non-fictions as early as possible. Reading helps student accumulate vocabulary, most importantly, knowledge. It takes time and doesn't happen overnight. This is why developing good reading habits at early age is important. English teacher at school plays a big role in enhancing students' writing skills, especially starting in 7th or 8th grade. During that time, students  start to learn how to review and revise their own writing. A good English teacher at school will teach them the correct methods and monitor closely by their critics. @Janet , Troy High School has a few excellent English teachers. My daughter benefited so much from her 9th grade English teacher.

就是觉得我老大写作平平。小时候大家提到的杂志我也订了不少，

他都拣science方面的看。小时候还有时间读课外书，

现在就完全没时间了。不知道我什么地方欠缺，

希望在两个小的身上改正。

@Janet , you probably didn't do anything wrong. Every kid is different. Some kid is naturally good in math and science. Some kid is naturally good in art and literature. What we want to do is to help them balance between math, science, and humanity subjects. They are all equally important for our kids before they enter graduate school. I was very surprised to find out that MIT was named among three top universities in the world for humanities and art fields when I visited the campus. This is because MIT believes as an engineer or scientist, one must be able to communicate. Therefore, their humanities, arts, and social sciences requirement is there to encourage the development of sensibilities and skills vital to an effective and satisfying life as an individual, a professional, and a member of society. I believe we should follow the same way as a parent in our children's education. Competitions are a good way to encourage our kids, but they are not absolute necessity. On the other hand, knowledge will follow our children for the rest of their lives.

@Laura and @Helen, 王华 , in ones life, you are lucky if you have a few good teachers who actually make an impact of your life. My daughter was extremely fortunate that she met a few really qualified teachers in Math, Science, English, and History in her short little over 2 years of high school. These teachers are not only technically strong, but most importantly, they are genuinely very nice person. I believe it is their quality characters (responsibility and dedication) make them the best teachers.

@Joanna Chen , you know that you will only have about 10 minutes with the counselor. So arrive early and don't be late. You won't have much time to ask lots of questions. Troy counselors are very efficient. They have been doing this for the Troy Tech Program students for so many years. Everything is pretty much set. You will receive a class schedule for the next 3 years(10th, 11th, and 12th) which include at least 12 AP classes (can be up to 15 AP classes) and some IB classes. A very heavy load is offered to our students automatically. I remember I just listened for the 10 minutes. [呲牙]

Another question: I'm not sure if my son need take IB program necessarily. Since I don't need worry about his academic,thanks again!

@Joanna Chen , he is not required to do the IB Program even if he is accepted to the IB program at the entrance test. But he will take some IB classes no matter what he decides to do at 11th and 12th grade. At Troy, many AP classes are combined with IB courses. So students can take both AP exam and IB test for the same class if they Choose to.

我非常同意Ling的说法，好老师不仅仅是教课，

更重要的是对孩子尊重，爱心，耐心和指引。 我儿子在北京一路重点学校，但因为孩子自己性格敏感，

与老师发生误解，孩子自己不会处理就躲避，老师暴跳，

质疑孩子品德问题。我们家长也习惯性的站在老师立场教育孩子… 结果孩子成长过程中[表情]接近3 年是惧怕成年人的。 幸运的是来到一个教会背景的美高，尽管依然出了不少差错，

老师们从没质疑孩子品德， 永远在努力：孩子遇到成长痛，我们能帮到他什么？ 孩子今年高四，突然成年 ，喜欢和年轻老师讨论问题和运动，洋溢着自信[表情]
